Alberta Budget 2017-18 Brings No New Surprises, Deficit and Accumulating Debt Remain a Concern

Businesses nervously waiting for a heavy shoe of new costs to drop today with the release of the 2017-18 Alberta Budget can breathe a little easier. Nothing shocking with the tabling of this budget which projects a $10.3 billion deficit in the coming year, but no new taxes either.

The government’s first budget centered on campaign promises: the middle class, growth, climate change. But, a lot of the critical details were put off to later: the infrastructure plan with “export corridors,” the innovation agenda, health spending, the tax expenditure review.
